Important news for Windows XP and 2000 users

By admin, July 15, 2010

Tuesday 13th of July 2010 marked the last time Microsoft will issue patches for either Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Win 2000. Security watchers reckon a significant proportion of Windows machines are still running Win XP SP2.

“Since Windows XP is still the most popular OS version for Windows, I believe we’re dealing with hundreds of millions of Windows XP SP2 systems that need to be upgraded,” said Wolfgang Kandek, CTO of Qualys. “Our own monitoring shows that roughly 50 percent of all XP machines still run on the SP2 version. XP SP2 machines can be found both in corporate installations and are also very often the OS on home machines.”

Windows XP SP2 (Service Pack 2) can be upgraded to Windows XP SP3 (Service Pack 3) for free by using Windows Update or downloading from here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en

Windows 2000 is now effectively an unsupported product and users should upgrade their operating system, and probably the hardware too.
